Do we sell everything or just some things or is it about the heart?

Okay. So we asked this question last night and gave our personal opinions, but what does God's word say about this? Is selling everything a "requirement" or is it more about the heart and if the heart is in the right place, then I can be "filthy" rich? What do you think? What does God say? What are some examples through scripture? What does God call the Israelites to do? Comment below. Let's talk....

I dont believe we need to sell everything or anything. I know some very wealthy people who use their money for God's will. Their money isnt for them and most definately not over God or more important than God. I think thats where we start running into problems when we put things over God. Whether its a hot wheels car or a million dollars none of it should be above God. Numbers 24 Balaam was instructed by Balak to curse Balak's enemies for him with the a 'handsome' reward. But Balaam blessed Balak's enemies becuase it was the Lord's will and he put God's will over mans. To sum it all up, I dont care how much money you do or dont have or how many treasures you do or dont have as long as the ones you have arent above God. If they come above God then thats when we need to sell or get rid of them. Our goal I think should be to figure out how to use everything we own to bring glory to God and to do God's will.

Great thoughts Collin. I think you are right on. Maybe it really has nothing to do with money at all but it could have to do with a host of other things. Do I value my son over the God of the universe? Do I value my possession, or my time, or my work, over the things of God? Where is my heart? Really? Good thoughts from Balaam and Balak. Do you think that we need to be more intentional about going after hard issues within our own hearts and lives?

Thats a good question. I think a lot of the time we are ask and we ask ourselves what is getting in the way or what am I putting ahead of God, but do we really mean it. Do we really fix it? I think we are asked that alot but dont follow thru. I think alot of it has to be on us. It is great to ask the question of us but in the end it comes down to us individuals correcting our mistakes or getting rid of those things that are in the way of our relationship w/ God.

I think it's a heart issue. Sometimes, some of our posessions ca become an idol to us so much that we get our mind off of God. My small group talked about this most of the time. So we decided to kind of fast from those things that are becoming an idol to us. This leads back to earlier this year when we had the technology fast. We fasted from technology that was becoming an idol to us. It helped me focus on God better then before.

I think your right about the heart issue thing. That is really cool to hear that your also discussing it in your small group and they are willing to step out of their comfort zone and do something like that as well. Good luck w/ it.
